Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are trudging through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during cold nights. Nothing is worse than going to bed at night just to find out your furnace won’t start up. If this happens to you, here are some things you can check yourself before calling Norrell Service Experts.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters every 30 days. If you don’t, they can get clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the actual room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, confirm the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but confirm the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating systems use electricity so verify the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give Norrell Service Experts a call at 205-267-0023 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
