Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer hasn’t quite made its debut but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your air conditioning technician to come out and perform your seasonal ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before higher temperatures are officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a qualified technician do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to clear away branches and debris that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the system and prune back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Norrell Service Experts will change your home’s basic air filters when they complete your air conditioning tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your A/C system, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your seasonal A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help block the sun from heating up your home by hanging blackout drapes or window shades. These window coverings may also help save your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is running properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A yearly air conditioner tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Norrell Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and learn about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
